Thousands of people demonstrating go out in Seattle’s streets in late 1999 to protest the Ministerial Meeting of the World Trade Organizations. The protestors include such people as Sam (Jennifer Carpenter), Django (Andre Benjamin), Jay (Martin Henderson), and Lou (Michelle Rodriguez). They all have different backgrounds but all have one thing in common: they want their voices heard as they try to make things happen. They have both personal and political reasons for being in the demonstration. The gathering turns into a riot and an emergency. The mayor, Jim Tobin (Ray Liotta), wants to keep the peace, while a police officer, Dale (Woody Harrelson), is out on the streets; he has a wife, Ella, who is pregnant (Charlize Theron).
