Words and phrases in Catalan

Thougn almost all Catalonians can speak Spanish, most signs and menus tend to be in Catalan only. Below are some useful phrases when in a shop or cafe, and items you might see on a menu:

Hello/good day: Bon Dia bon de-a
Hello/good afternoon: Bona tarda bona tar-da (it remains tarda until about 8pm)
Goodnight: Bona nit bona ne-t
Please: Per favor (Catalan proper is s’is plau but locally it is per favor)

White coffee: Café amb llet café-n-yet

Less than an hour away is Salou with its beaches and tourist bars, its go-karting and Port Aventura, the Universal Studios theme park; Reus, the town where Gaudi was born; and Tarragona, the capital and historical centre of the province, is one of the places to go to marvel at Human Castles.
